We aren't your average fish sellers. At Loki Fish Co, we're part of a unique group of small-boat fishermen who have chosen to bypass the processors and market their catch directly to you. We've been family owned and operated since our inception in 1979 when Pete Knutson and Hing Lau Ng purchased the Loki, a 38-foot 1959 wooden gillnetter. Today Pete runs his boat, the Njord, and his son Jonah runs the Loki, which he inherited from his father in 2006.
Our salmon are gillnet caught, handled respectfully, bled and dressed onboard, immediately chilled to below freezing in our refrigerated seawater holds, and then flash frozen to preserve their pristine state. We take pride in directly marketing every salmon that is harvested aboard our two boats and our family is personally involved in every step from harvest to processing to direct sales, ensuring the highest level of quality.
In addition to our family's catch, Loki Fish Company often works directly with four boats to help meet our nation-wide demand for high quality wild salmon. All of the fishermen we work with have a strong personal relationship with our family and are paid a premium to handle their fish beyond the industry standard. They fish the same areas of Southeast Alaska and Puget Sound as we do, gillnetting for salmon and following our exacting handling and icing procedures. This includes bleeding, dressing and immersing the salmon in refrigerated seawater holds, and offloading directly to our trucks for processing and distribution. We believe in a clear and transparent chain of custody every step of the way.
We are proud to participate in a salmon harvest that has been internationally certified as sustainable by the Marine Stewardship Council.
